AMES – Iowa State associate head football coach and running backs coach Louis Ayeni has accepted a job at Northwestern to be its running backs coach. The move was first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel.

Ayeni played for Northwestern from 1999-2003. He was a running back in his first three seasons before switching to safety his final season. Ayeni was also a graduate assistant for the Wildcats from 2008-09.

Before coming to Iowa State, Ayeni coached NFL standout rookie running back Kareem Hunt at Toledo. At Iowa State, he coached two 1,000-yard rushers, the first was Mike Warren in 2015 and in 2017, it was David Montgomery. Montgomery, a sophomore, also led the country in forced missed tackles according to Pro Football Focus.
