Zander Wiel, Jaylin Davis go deep as Cedar Rapids Kernels blast Lake County

EASTLAKE, Ohio — Zander Wiel hit a three-run home run, and the Cedar Rapids Kernels beat the Lake County Captains, 8-1, Thursday afternoon in Midwest League baseball at Classic Park.

It’s the third consecutive win for Cedar Rapids (47-43 overall, 11-10 second half). The teams conclude their three-game series Friday night.

Luis Arraez went 3-for-5 with a run and RBI for a second straight game for the Kernels. His season batting average now is up to .336.

Jaylin Davis also homered for a second consecutive game. Starting pitcher Lachlan Wells (2-1) threw shutout ball over six innings, striking out eight, to pick up the victory.

Max Cordy finished up, notching his first MWL save.
