Former Kennedy prep Zach Daniels named Big Ten pitcher of the week

IOWA CITY — Former Cedar Rapids Kennedy prep Zach Daniels has been named Big Ten Conference baseball pitcher of the week, it has been announced.

A sophomore for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Daniels won a pair of games last week in relief, over Bradley and Purdue. In 5 2/3 innings, the right-hander allowed three hits and struck out nine.

This season, Daniels is 4-1 with a 4.00 earned run average in nine appearances. He has 20 strikeouts in 18 innings.

Iowa was scheduled to play Grand View in a non-conference game Tuesday at Iowa City.
