C.R. Kernels win 4th straight, Dereck Rodriguez wins for 1st time in 2 months
EASTLAKE, Ohio — Zander Wiel homered, and Dereck Rodriguez threw six strong innings as the Cedar Rapids Kernels bested Lake County, 6-1, Friday night in Midwest League baseball.
Cedar Rapids (48-43, 12-10) won for the fourth straight time. It begins a three-game series Saturday night at Fort Wayne.
Rodriguez (2-10) allowed just six hits and a run to win for the first time since May 14. He walked one and struck out four.
Wiel hit his team-best eighth home run, a two-run shot in the third inning to put the Kernels ahead for good. He, Kevin Garcia, Casey Scoggins and Jermaine Palacios had two hits apiece.
Wiel and Luis Arraez drove in all six of their team’s runs, three apiece.
