CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON — The Warriors return a solid group of players from last year’s district title team that finished fifth at state. They will look to retain their MVC Valley Division title. There is a big hole to fill with the graduation of Frank Lindwall, but Connor Neighbors and Alex Slattery shared MVC Valley Athlete of the Year honors. Ben Skogman was honorable mention all-Metro last season and Whit Haefner gives them four starters back. Washington will need consistency from a third and fourth scorer and get contribution from its young players.
CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER — The Saints have four starters back and will rely on their depth. Mississippi Division Player of the Year Brad Karpick leads the way. All-conference performers Ryan Keating, Matt Neumeyer and Nick Recker give the Saints an experienced quartet of scorers. The key could be who steps in to the other two starting spots. The Saints should be one of the top teams in the MVC, vying for a Mississippi Division crown.
LINN-MAR — Linn-Mar Coach Chris James takes over the boys’ program for the first season. He did a great job in the spring and inherits a talented and experienced group, including a senior dominated roster. The Lions have four players back from the state tournament team that placed third a year ago. Drew Brandel and Ben Greif were first-team all-MVC golfers last season. Cole Yearling returns after a second-team finish and Zach Armstrong was honorable mention. The Lions own a good shot to repeat as divisional champions.
