Traffic camera letters are hilarious

To the editor:

Letters, especially those from out-of-state complaining about the cameras on Interstate 380, are hilarious.

I am grinning after reading the letter from a disgruntled father whose son was behind the wheel when Dad’s license plate was recorded on candid camera and which resulted in Dad receiving a citation for speeding. That is funny!

One fellow has resolved to fly from Minneapolis to St. Louis as opposed to driving through Cedar Rapids because he received a $75 speeding ticket. Cedar Rapids has given him that dreaded “unwelcoming feeling.” I can visualize the drooped shoulders and alligator tears streaming down a forlorn face. What a hoot!

An expert is quoted as saying CR is developing a “bad reputation” among drivers. A bad reputation is earned for enforcing the law by using proven and affordable technology. I can’t stop from laughing! And, it’s hard to top the “trick” which was shared by a couple who travel between Waterloo and Iowa City. The “trick” is to locate a camera, then slow down, then speed up, then slow down, then speed up. I would not be surprised if they shave 20 or 30 seconds off their travel time. I’m crying from laughing!

But here’s the funny part. Tickets are not issued unless a vehicle is going 67 mph or more in a 55 mph zone so that means these folks are flying though our city and should be exempt from laws that pertain to ground transportation. This is cracking me up.
