Letter: Wiggins will listen and interact with residents

Reading The Gazette’s “Meet Your Candidates” article on Oct. 13, it’s apparent that residents have a clear choice in who should represent the 5th District of Cedar Rapids. That choice is Keith Wiggins.

Our Crestwood neighborhood was told that the incumbent had a reputation for ignoring emails and phone calls. We witnessed this lack of response throughout the recent Crestwood Ridge process. Members of the Crestwood neighborhood reached out to the incumbent numerous times through email or phone calls. Never once was anyone accorded the courtesy of a response from this representative.

We need a representative who will listen to, and interact with, residents of Cedar Rapids.

For further proof as to why change is needed, visit the city website and watch the video of the May 23 council meeting. Scroll to the 2 hour and 52 minute section of the video and watch the District 5 incumbent “explain” his vote. He rambles about pumpkin and strawberry patches, but never explains why he reversed his vote in regard to this project.

Wiggins will bring a fresh approach to how our district is represented. He has pledged to interact with, and listen to, all residents of the city.

Our neighborhoods need a voice in the city government. Wiggins will be that voice.
