Letter: Whitehead supports public education
Dick Whitehead will be a great voice in the statehouse for the people of District 95.
He knows how important our students in public schools are to the future of our state. Iowa has slipped to 35th among the 50 states in per-pupil spending on public education. This systematic underfunding over the past six years convinced Whitehead to run for House 95.
I’m voting for Whitehead because our students deserve newer textbooks, up-to-date technology and the best teachers. Whitehead believes all schools should have librarians, access to nurses and class options such as Spanish and technology in our elementary schools.
As a retired superintendent from Center Point-Urbana and College Community, Whitehead understands school funding and complex budgets and knows tough budget choices can be made while preserving the strength of our public schools.
Whitehead will work to make sure school funding that is timely and adequate is the standard, not the exception. Our public schools don’t need to be forced into program cuts, larger class sizes and choices between transportation and a 21st century education for our kids, our future.
Whitehead will fight for our kids. As a teacher and a grandma in District 95, I vote for Whitehead.
