Letter: Washington out of touch with governed

The Democratic Party unveiled “A Better Deal” slogan backed by a whole boatload of recycled promises aimed at the working class. The promises will go unfulfilled of course and the programs will only lead to more debt and greater expansion of the central government. It’s as if the Democrats don’t understand why they have been losing seats at local, state, and federal government levels in recent years.

Meanwhile on the other side of the cesspool the establishment Republican Party is targeting their own president. The establishment Republicans acting in concert with the Democrats and media are doing everything in their power to delegitimize the results of the November election and in the process, are reneging on all the campaign promises they have been making for years. It’s as if the Republicans don’t understand why they have been winning seats at local, state, and federal government levels in recent years.

Nothing good can come from this for either party and certainly not for the taxpayers. I feel this elected government has lost what Seymour Lipset referred to as “the moral title to rule” they have delegitimized themselves. At best, Washington is out of touch with the governed, at worst they couldn’t care less what the governed wanted.
