Letter: Vote for Janet Godwin on Sept. 12

I have had the privilege to learn from and work with Janet Godwin when she served on the ICCSD Foundation board of directors. I saw firsthand the commitment that she has to our community, the public schools and area school age children. She embodies the philosophy of hard work, integrity and commitment and you can feel confident that she will do what she has told you she would do — qualities that left our organization better due to her involvement.

She understands the importance of preparing our students for post graduate life. She is committed to supporting the development of all students, building out educational programming focused on 21st century skills, and collaborating with businesses and postsecondary institutions to strengthen the overall Iowa City community. We need board members, like her, that will make innovating in the classroom a priority.

She will be a positive addition to our school board focusing on our students and their futures and how we can help to ensure their success. I want a school board that will craft that vision in partnership with all of our community stakeholders. And I want a school board that has the experience to deliver on that vision through transparent process, clear and honest communications, and strong decision-making. I’m voting for Janet because she has the vision and the experience to get it done. Join me in voting for Godwin on Sept. 12.
