Letter: Unfairness of healthc are bill is obvious

With reference to the Republican health care plan: where are our two senators, Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, when the poor and the pre-Medicare older citizens need spokespeople to expose the bill’s inequities.

The two of them keep dancing around saying that they don’t have enough facts. Why aren’t our two Republican senators standing up to expose the facts contained in this travesty of a health care bill the Republican Senators are putting forward as a health care replacement bill for Obamacare.

This outrageous bill boils down to one fact: It will eliminate health care for 22 million poor Americans on Medicaid so that wealthy Americans can receive $800 million in tax benefits. Everyone should be aware that three quarters of Americans living in nursing homes are on Medicaid and 50 percent of babies in America are born in Medicaid. The unfairness of this bill is obvious. Where are all the Iowa Christians who go to church on Sunday and espouse fair play and charity? Why aren’t they bombarding our senators and Congressmen with calls, emails and letters telling them to act on their Christian principles and speak up against this terrible bill?

News analysts state that between 60 percent and 75 percent of Americans are against this bill. Still Senate leader Mitch McConnell wants to force this bill through. And, our Iowa senators are willing to help him do it. I say, “Stand up, Ernst and Grassley, and let the nation hear what honest and fair-minded Iowans think.”
