Letter: Senator wrong to introduce gun bill

Dear Sen. Jason Schultz,

I understand that firing automatic weapons is part of the training in the Iowa National Guard, but as a 44-year-old state senator from western Iowa, you should probably have outgrown them by now. Maybe you dream of being a good guy with a gun who stops a bad guy with a gun. A single shot? Doubtful. In your world you slip the toggle past semi to auto and neutralize the bad guy. Never mind neutralizing a lot of other good people straight to the morgue so their moms or dads or lovers or children could identify them.

We need machine guns and sawed off shotguns like Bonnie and Clyde needed assertiveness training. Have you taken leave of your senses? It’s either that or the National Rifle Association promised you a special place in heaven for your outlandish proposal cloaked in “freedom.” The NRA is powerful, but doesn’t hold much sway with the Big Guy upstairs.
