Letter: Rod Blum is not a career politician

I’d like to thank our Congressman, Rod Blum for serving us in Congress after a successful career creating jobs for hundreds of Iowans in the private sector.

I am a few months away from completing my university life and have paid a lot of attention to the race for Congress as it will impact my ability to get a good job.

Blum is willing to brave the nasty world of politics and work to bring business common sense to Congress and jobs for Iowa. While only there for one term, he has used his business background to bring bills forth to incentivize politicians to work for us by cutting their pay if they run a budget deficit and banning them from becoming lobbyists after serving in Congress.

He is not a career politician, but someone doing his “duty” to improve our state and our country. When our Founding Fathers set up our system of government, they envisioned a citizen legislature made up of principled Americans willing to make a temporary sacrifice by taking time away from their career and family to serve in Congress. This is who Blum is and I appreciate his service to Iowa.
