Letter: Republican decisions hurt society

Regarding the Sept. 15 letter “Trump will make America great again” by Osmund Quandahl:

I found Quandahl’s critique comparing Republican leaders to Democratic leaders quite interesting. President Donald Trump has a documented history of racial discrimination. During many of his campaign speeches, he encouraged chanting against Hispanics and Muslims. Hillary Clinton has done more in her life to lift up others from poverty and to get them access to health care. Trump’s history shows that he only cares about what will make him richer, even if it means not paying for work that people have done for him.

I value my freedom of religion. I pray that we never are ruled by any religion.

Democrats did not increase the need for people to have to depend on food stamps and free food from pantries or free meals. Republicans have a history of interfering with free enterprise. They give taxpayer money to the wealthiest people and the biggest corporations. They will not raise the minimum wage. They figure that those of us who work hard for a living can exist on the crumbs that we are tossed by our authoritarian employers. Our median income has returned to what it was when President Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress acquired power. So, now we are another eight years behind.

The police who kill innocent, unarmed people need to be held accountable by the courts. It’s a shame that a minority of police are affecting the reputations of good, caring, responsible police.
