Letter: Plagman, Johnson were leaders with a vision

Vision is the most important quality among community educators, from elementary schools to the area’s colleges.

Vision among educators runs parallel to the imaginative element in political thought. The young have been drawn to Sen. Bernie Sanders because the vision in his political thought resonates with their lives. Similarly among educators, the young are drawn to leaders with vision.

That is why it is particularly sad for me to see two gifted school administrators in our community leaving their jobs. Ralph Plagman knew that schools could mold strong, independent, unbroken people. From the teachers he hired, role models could be found to give young people freedom and similar vision to live good lives. Michael Johnson also is a talented and gifted man. Look at the outcry from Washington High School students, alumni and parents. These events did not need to happen.
