Letter: Monica Vernon is ready to lead
I strongly support Monica Vernon for mayor of Cedar Rapids. My last six years on the Linn County Board of Supervisors overlapped with her first six years on the Cedar Rapids City Council. Linn County suffered the devastating 2008 flood soon after she was elected to the City Council.
Cedar Rapids and Linn County officials worked hand-in-hand on flood relief. I saw firsthand Vernon’s tireless efforts on behalf of Cedar Rapids. She was an advocate for Cedar Rapids and left no stone unturned in her effort to educate state and federal authorities on the devastation of the flooding and on Cedar Rapids flood recovery needs.
Before her election to the City Council, she served 10 years on the Cedar Rapids Planning and Zoning Commission and five years with the Metropolitan Planning Organization. She was a leading force in building the Madge Phillips Homeless Shelter for Women and Children. She has served on a large number of boards, the full list of her volunteer efforts and accomplishments are simply too lengthy to list.
Please join me in voting for Vernon on Dec. 5. She is ready to lead on day one.
