Letter: Miriam Timmer-Hackert is rooted in justice, peace
Vote Miriam Timmer-Hackert for Coralville City Council on Nov. 7.
City councils decide on many community issues, some involving money and authority, topics that can generate vigorous (sometimes “heated”) discussions. Timmer-Hackert offers the council her input and help as lawyer and mediator, facilitating open and respectful communication.
Her community activism includes being an advocate for peace (Peace Education and Action Center of Eastern Iowa), and promoting environmental decisions that sustain and honor the earth (participant in Dakota Access Pipeline protests). She generates excitement within children, helping them to plant and grow their own food in school gardens at Coralville Central. She participates in council meetings, recently addressing them regarding Restorative Justice.
It is an honor to call her friend. She is rooted in justice and peace. It is heartwarming to watch her impact on her family as they uncover their roles as citizens that can make a difference. While she has a gentle nature, she draws on immense personal courage, speaking out on controversial issues.
We need her voice on the Coralville City Council.
