Letter: Keep government out of health care

Recently, I heard president President Donald Trump say we need to lower health care premiums and deductibles. It does not work that way. A lower deductible means a higher premium and vice versa. Basic insurance 101 stuff.

Also, according to the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, pre-existing conditions are to be covered by insurance. This is tantamount to insurance fraud. For example, if you wreck your non-insured car, you cannot buy insurance the next day and then file a claim. This would be a fraudulent claim. Currently, each state has an insurance regulatory body and insurance is regulated at the state level. The federal government has forced our state to accept insurance fraud in our health care system, which has caused most of our providers to remove themselves from the Iowa market. I am surprised the state insurance regulatory bodies have not banded together to file suit against the ACA. The feds should remove themselves from regulating health insurance, so people can afford health insurance, and fund Medicaid adequately for those who cannot afford health insurance.
