Letter: Keep bridge simple, inexpensive

So, we have a group a people who want to build an expensive bridge across the river for pedestrians and bicyclists.

I agree that it would be nice to have a bridge crossing where they propose it, but all we need is a simple and inexpensive bridge. One issue with the bridge is its location. There is no easy access to either side of the bridge. People who don’t live in Cedar Rapids and don’t know their way around would have a hard time getting to the bridge. Looking at the location, you have to walk or bicycle at least a mile to get to the bridge. I also would like to know who will pay for the maintenance and upkeep if the bridge is built as in the proposal?

A bridge like this is going to need a lot of upkeep, especially with the type of weather we have. I also feel that the geese will love and use the bridge more than most people of Cedar Rapids.

Building a bridge connecting this area is a nice idea, but all we need is a simple, inexpensive and easily maintainable one. A big, fancy and expensive bridge will not bring more people to our town. It would attract some new people, but only until the newness wears off.
