Iowa’s Bottle Bill was enacted April 1, 1978, requiring a 5 cent deposit. Iowa should hit the bottle and change the deposit of 5 cents to at least 10 cents.
This is a no-brainer for the Legislature. Here’s a bill of 39 years that needs change. Of course there will be old arguments but they should be “recycled.” Entrepreneurship will be encouraged seeing a profit is to be made. Bottles and cans shouldn’t be part of our grocery stores for sanitation reasons. Can’t afford the increase? Don’t worry, you’ll get it back.
