Letter: Ernst should apply Army values

I would like to publicly remind Sen. Joni Ernst to keep Army values in mind when it comes time to vote for the health care legislation: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.

Sen. Ernst, you must be loyal to those you represent, not those out of state PACs who funded your campaign.

Do your duty. Protect our citizens with pre-existing conditions.

Respect those who are less fortunate. Give them a chance at a healthier life.

Serve selflessly, without fear of what the out-of-state campaign funders will think. Do the right thing and your constituents will remember it on Election Day.

Serve with honor. Do the right thing. Vote against the latest attempt to enrich insurance companies at the expense of your constituents.

Show us your integrity. Follow up on your promises to do the right thing for Iowans.

Be courageous. You know that sometimes doing the right thing has consequences. You served courageously in the Iowa National Guard. Do so in the Senate.

Sen. Ernst, if you apply the values you believed in during your long Army career I am sure you will vote against the latest attempt to take health care away from Iowans.
