Letter: Enjoy your time off, Mr. President

So Donald Trump is off to New Jersey for a 17-day golf vacation. Some might call him a hypocrite, considering all the time he spent criticizing President Barack Obama for his vacations. After all, Trump is on pace to spend more of our tax money on personal travel in his first year than Obama spent in all eight of his.

Some might believe that no punishment is strong enough for a man who appears to have colluded with a foreign adversary to help get himself elected. Shouldn’t that, along with the obstruction of justice that followed, land him in prison?

But here’s a thought. Since most Americans say they are embarrassed Trump is our president, and the rest will come around eventually, why don’t we make a deal? After all, he loves deals. Let’s help Trump make his biggest deal yet, and at the same time fix a historic mistake.

Please, Mr. Trump, we are begging you. Don’t come back from vacation. Stay in New Jersey, or return to your golden apartment, or just golf the rest of your life away at another one of your resorts. But never, ever, return to the White House. Resign instead.

Resign, and I, for one, am ready to say that all is forgiven. You may not have had time to build your ridiculous wall or take health insurance away from poor people, but at least by resigning, you will be making a bit of progress toward your goal of making America great again.
