Letter: Educating children is worth tax increase

To person who wrote in complaining about his school taxes who now needs to move to Waterloo, I have some thoughts for you (“Marion property tax rate forcing move,” Aug. 24).

I retired in 2014 after working for 40 years. I have moved four times, all within the Linn-Mar district over those years. At no time did I consider moving out of the district because educating our kids is the best tax money we can spend.

I wonder why the gentlemen did not do some homework, as Linn-Mar has been on a steady growth pattern for as long as I can remember. I know several people who have moved into the Linn-Mar district from small towns in the area. I have consistently told them not to complain about tax increases for schools because the good people here support their schools as do other districts in the area.

I wonder, since he is retired and probably has no children in school, that he no longer wants to support his local school. Many older people feel that way.

My vote for the upcoming bond issue will be to support the tax increase.
