Letter: Donald Trump's actions threaten our democracy

President Donald Trump is a habitual liar, cares only for himself and when proven wrong blames someone else. He has the emotional development of a 10-year-old. When speaking, he repeats himself. This is when he internalizes the lie he just told as truth.

Read about Ancient Rome. Putin is our modern Nero. Trump is a friend of Putin. The Romans possessed a meaningful proverb: “If you put up with the crimes of a friend, you make them your own.” It is time for our legislators to stop putting up and start stepping up.

Who can help us? Sen. Joni Ernst will be of little help. Sen. Chuck Grassley, however, could make a difference. He needs to stand up and be the man he used to be. He needs to take a stand against Trump’s Folly. Remember the Proverb, Sen. Grassley. You have the seniority and position to influence what happens in our government. Be careful who you choose to be your friend.

Trump’s actions threaten our democracy and world peace. Not only is he an embarrassment, he is dangerous. Do we really want Steve Bannon, Reince Priebus, Stephen Miller and/or Kellyanne Conway deciding how to deal with ISIS, global warming or North Korea? It is time for the Legislative and Judicial branches to defend our Constitution, preserve our way of life and protect our planet. We have to let Putin know we are not his friend.
