Iowa tax reform plan puts families first

Our current tax code contains a maze of special-interest loopholes that are unfair to hardworking Iowans. The government shouldn’t pick winners and losers through the tax code. Consider small-town community banks which help finance homes and farms. Our hometown banks pay taxes, yet credit unions are exempt. That’s not right. And it’s not fair.

That’s why I encourage our elected officials to support legislation similar to the Iowa Working Families Tax Relief Act. Not only does the legislation make Iowa’s tax code fairer and simpler, it puts more money back in the pockets of hardworking Iowans who know best what to do with their money.

Let’s put banks and credit unions on an equal footing so community banks can better serve our Main Street small businesses, farmers and consumers.
