Conservatives care about clean energy

In this election season, I wanted to take a moment to comment on an issue that is very important to me and my family — renewable energy. As a conservative Republican who believes firmly in fiscal responsibility and energy independence, I strongly believe that renewable energy should be a priority at the local, state and federal levels.

I would love to see Cedar Rapids become a national leader in promoting solar power. With an abundance of flat roofs on businesses all over the city, a partnership between business owners, Alliant, and the city to get panels on as many of the buildings as possible seems like a viable and economically profitable idea. In tandem with local government, I would love to see the state and federal government continue and expand renewable energy — and especially solar — tax credits.
