Listening to your concerns

I am Kathy Swenka and I am running for the Clear Creek Amana School Board, at-large. My family is fourth-generation in the district. I am a 20-year early childhood educator and feel the school board is missing this component. When students have a strong start in their early years, this leads to a successful academic future. I will advocate for students of all ages. I will be available for conversations at school or community events or a private meeting, if you wish. I am always willing to listen to other’s concerns, opinions, ideas or addressing questions.

I will continue to lobby state elected officials to increase state supplemental aid, to look for inefficiencies within the CCA budget and to be fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars. Rather than making drastic cuts to an already struggling budget. My priorities are keeping classroom sizes small and retaining high achieving teachers that reach the needs of their students. Without these goals, schools don’t produce students who can think outside the box for an ever changing world.

I will continue to support CCA for seeing students as individuals, not a number like larger districts, and affording students the opportunity to participate in multiple sports and activities such as band, drama or chorus. I’ll advocate on behalf of students and faculty to maintain our facility needs to keep up with growth.
