Freedom Festival is an event to be proud of

I have been lucky enough to be part of the non-profit Freedom Festival since 2011 and in the time I have spent on the board, the one term I would use to describe the festival is “amazing.”

The commitment of our staff, interns, executive board, board of directors, sponsors, and volunteers is above bar. The sense of community you feel when people talk about the Freedom Festival is remarkable. I feel a sense of pride being part of this group. Everyone plays their part throughout the year and especially in putting in extra hours during the festival time. The sponsors that are involved with the Freedom Festival enable us to provide our community with all these events. Without the help of everyone mentioned earlier, we would not be able to provide this large of a festival in our community. Thank you so much!

It is great to see how the Festival has evolved from 1984 to 2016. The Freedom Festival provides many options for people to enjoy in the Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas. It is impressive to see what goes on behind the scenes and what our staff and board does to ensure the community can experience so many events that cater to all ages and are free with the festival button — from the Medallion Hunt to approximately 20 Freedom Festival events and 60 affiliated events that start June 16 through July 4.

The Freedom Festival also focuses on a community partnership. The Freedom Festival is a stand-alone non-profit that truly relies on community sponsorship, individual donors, volunteers and of course our staff and board. We always are looking for more people who would like to get involved. Please visit our website to find out more and see a listing of this year’s events.

On behalf of the Freedom Festival staff, executive board, and board of directors, we hope to see you at our events. Please stop by your Marion or Cedar Rapids Hy-Vee Grocery and/or Drugstore or Casey’s to purchase a $5 dollar button, Hy-Vee coupons and a chance to receive a gold button to win a prize. Thank you to our presenting sponsor Hy-Vee and all other sponsors that contribute to the Freedom Festival.
