Mayoral candidates Vernon and Hart face off in Tuesday forum - Mayoral candidates Monica Vernon and Brad Hart differed on approaches to address a shortfall of affordable housing during a forum Tuesday night at the Cedar Rapids Public Library.

Grassley backs NAFTA negotiations - Despite warnings from Canada that the future of NAFTA is in jeopardy unless the Trump administration backs off its most controversial proposals, Sen. Chuck Grassley remains optimistic negotiations will preserve the trade pact critical to Iowa export markets.

Grassley, who has some concerns about the impact of changes in NAFTA being negotiated with Mexico and Canada, has been making the case for continuing the trilateral agreement which, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, supports 138,000 Iowa jobs and $5.6 billion in exports. Read more...

Iowa Medicaid enrollees won't be able to switch to Amerigroup - Hundreds of thousands of enrollees in Iowa’s privately managed Medicaid program will not be able to choose between the two remaining providers after AmeriHealth Caritas of Iowa’s withdrawal from the program.

The Iowa Department of Human Services said Tuesday that Amerigroup Iowa — one of the two remaining companies that will manage the state’s Medicaid program for 2018 — does ”not currently have capacity to take any new members,” according to a notice sent to lawmakers and obtained by The Gazette. Read more...

The Kinnick Wave wins Disney Sports Spirit Award - Parents whose children have experienced the “Kinnick Wave” from the 12th floor of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital have said the new tradition is “really something.”

Turns out Disney, a company synonymous with dreams coming true, agrees.
