Cedar Rapids flood project 'on the radar' at the White House: Cedar Rapids officials left a meeting Monday with President Donald Trump at the White House feeling, at minimum, that the city’s flood control needs are on the radar screen at the highest levels of the administration. Cedar Rapids Mayor Brad Hart and mayors and governors from a handful of other communities and states with critical infrastructure needs spoke with Trump and top aides in a two hour meeting. Read more >

 

Community remembers Tom Walz: Former dean of the University of Iowa School of Social Work and disability advocate Tom Walz died Saturday at age 84 after a fight with cancer. “He had an unusual collection of gentleness, compassion, smarts, creativity and chutzpah,” said one longtime coworker, of the legacy Walz leaves in both Iowa City and the world. Read more >

 

Marion district faces sixth lawsuit over sexual abuse by class volunteer: The Marion Independent School District and teacher Diane Graham face yet another lawsuit from a parent of a Starry Elementary kindergartner over allegations of sex abuse by a teenage classroom volunteer. CROP Hunger Walk planned for Iowa City: The CROP Hunger Walk is gearing up for an annual walk to benefit the food pantry at the Crisis Center of Johnson County. Last year, the event raised more than $7,000 to benefit the Crisis Center’s food bank. This year’s event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 8. Read more >
