Structure fire in apartment building on Center Point Road NE results in no reported injuries

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a fire in a two story, eight apartment building at 3633 Center Point Road NE around 1:45 p.m. today.

According to a release, firefighters identified a fire in the walls and attic space of the building’s laundry room on the second floor. The fire was quickly brought under control.

Many residents were home during the fire, but no resident is displaced, according to the release.

The major damage is reported to be in the laundry room, with light water and smoke damage to the areas adjacent on the second floor.

No medical treatment was needed and the initial cause of the fire remains under investigation.
