Shooting investigation underway in the City of Washington

Police said they do not believe there is a threat to the public

WASHINGTON — A Washington, Iowa, shooting is under investigation.

According to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, a shooting at 106 South Avenue B was reported to the county communications center. Deputies, along with the Washington Police Department and Washington County Ambulance responded to the residence and one person was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Authorities have not released the name or condition of the shooting victim. Police said they do not believe there is a current threat to the public.

An investigation by the Washington Police Department and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is ongoing.
