Police: Sexual assault reported in UI campus dorm

IOWA CITY — An alleged sexual assault has been reported in a University of Iowa east campus residence hall, according to UI police.

UI police received a report that a sexual assault may have occurred in the overnight hours from late Friday to early Saturday, according to a campus crime alert announced in accordance with the federal Clery Act. An acquaintance may have been responsible for the alleged assault, according to UI police.

University of Iowa policy prohibits engaging in sexual activities without clear consent from your partner, and someone incapacitated due to alcohol or drugs cannot consent to sexual activity, according to university policy.

Students or employees violating the school’s sexual misconduct policies may face sanctions up to and including expulsion or termination, according to the school.
