Marion resident reports finding grenade during house cleaning

Well that’s not something you find every day cleaning house.

According to a media release from the Marion Police Department, officers were called Thursday evening at just before 5 p.m. to the 1000 block of 24th St. in Marion for the report of a home owner who believed that they had found a live hand grenade while cleaning their house.

A member of the Marion / Linn County Bomb Squad responded to the scene to examine the device, according to the release. It was determined that it was a WW2 era hand grenade, although it was not determined at the time if it was functional. The device was safely removed from the scene, according to the release.

No one was injured and no property was damaged during the incident and no charges will be filed in connection to it, according to the release.
