CEDAR RAPIDS — A man is accused of attempted murder after shooting his wife this weekend.

According to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, 42-year-old Marc A. Campbell faces charges of attempted murder, willful injury causing serious injury and possession of a firearm as a felon for a shooting that occurred on Dec. 2.

Police were called to 515 Ashton Pl. NE at 8:26 p.m. for a disturbance and discovered the victim, 28-year-old Kameesha R. Nathaniel suffering from a gunshot wound. She is receiving treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Campbell was found inside 541 Ashton Pl. NE, suffering from a traumatic injury. He was taken to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital, where he remained until he was arrested Wednesday.

Buelow said police determined Campbell shot Nathaniel while they were inside 435 Ashton Place NE — where the couple resided — Nathaniel fled the apartment and was found at 515 Ashton Place. At some point, Campbell stabbed himself in the chest, authorities said.

Police said they are also investigating a “secondary shooting” that occurred in the parking lot near 435 Ashton Pl. NE that happened around the same time the original incident was unfolding. Buelow said Wednesday the secondary shooting appears to be related to the original incident and remains under investigation.

Campbell is now in the Linn County Jail.
