CEDAR RAPIDS — Two people showed up at Cedar Rapids hospitals Sunday morning with gunshot wounds.

According to Cedar Rapids police, officers were called to the 300 block of Second Avenue SE around 12:16 a.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired. Officers found “evidence of a shooting” in an alley nearby, police said.

While police were on scene, they learned gunshot victims had shown up at UnityPoint Health-St. Lukes Hospital and Mercy Medical Center, where they had been taken by private vehicle. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening.

No suspects have been identified, police said.

Sunday morning’s incident marks the second reported shooting in the city this weekend. Cedar Rapids police were called to 53 Dartmouth St. SW at 11:40 a.m. Saturday for a shooting and found a person inside the residence suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

It is unclear at this time if the shootings are related.
