Deputies arrest Cedar Rapids man after high-speed chase

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man faces multiple charges after Linn County officials say he led sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase in southeast Cedar Rapids early Saturday.

According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a car westbound on Mount Vernon Road SE near 42nd Street SE just after 2 a.m. Saturday. Officials say the car’s driver, Dustin Allen Johnson, 26, of Cedar Rapids, refused to stop and accelerated west on Mount Vernon Road, reaching speeds of over 80 mph before eventually stopping near Memorial Drive SE.

Johnson, the only occupant of the car, was taken into custody without further incident and faces charges of operating while intoxicated, attempting to elude law enforcement and other traffic charges. He remained in custody at the Linn County Jail Saturday afternoon.

No injuries or property damage were reported.
