Cedar Rapids man accused of causing crash, assaulting driver's father

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man is accused of causing a crash and then assaulting the other driver’s father.

Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said that around 5:44 p.m. Monday a woman was driving southbound on Edgewood Road when she was hit from behind by 26-year-old Deshawn L. Edwards when they approached the red light at First Avenue. Buelow said the woman’s father arrived on the scene of the crash.

Police said after the father arrived, Edwards punched the 48-year-old man. Edwards fled the scene, but was later captured by officers. He now faces charges of assault causing bodily injury, failure to maintain control, no driver’s license and no insurance.
