Linn County Sheriff's Office is investigating Friday night crash

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Friday night crash between a passenger vehicle and motorcyclist.

According to a Linn County Sheriff’s Office news release, emergency personnel responded to a motorcyclist that was struck by a vehicle in the 7000 block of Ely Road at approximately 8:46 a.m. on Friday, August 12th.

38 year old Barry G. Randall of Marion, was driving his car southbound on Ely Road when he did a U-turn into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle that had been northbound, according to the release. Randall was not injured and was the only one in the car.

The motorcyclist, 23 year old Austin L. Schminkey of Cedar Rapids, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.

Randall was issued a citation for an unsafe turn and was wearing his seat belt. Schminkey was wearing a helmet.

The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
