Knife-wielding Cedar Rapids man arrested after break in
CEDAR RAPIDS — A knife-wielding man broke into a Cedar Rapids home on Sunday.
Cedar Rapids police responded to a home in the 200 block of 11th Street NW around 4 a.m. for a report of a break-in. Police said 34-year-old Stephen Bartz broke into the residence. The female occupant was screaming when officers arrived, Buelow said.
Bartz was armed with a butcher knife at the time of the break-in, police said. He was also drunk, Buelow said.
Buelow said the home Bartz broke into is owned by his father, but is rented out.
Bartz was arrested and faces one count of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
