CORALVILLE — Two men and a juvenile are accused of committing an armed robbery at Coral Ridge Mall Monday evening.

According to Coralville police, the robbery happened around 7:35 p.m. in the parking lot of the mall, 1451 Coral Ridge Ave. Police said a woman entered a vehicle and once she did so, was robbed by Cheyenne B. Beathea, 18, of Tiffin; Jared T. Simmons, 18, of Hills; and a 17-year-old boy. Beathea was armed with a gun and pointed it at the woman, police said.

Police said the three suspects restrained the woman and searched her vehicle for money. After finding money in her clothing, they let her go near Lowes, 2701 Second St., police said. The woman returned to Coral Ridge Mall, which is across from Lowes, and contacted police.

Coralville Police Chief Shane Kron said the robbery does not appear to be a random act.

“We do believe the parties knew each other in some fashion,” he said.

Kron said officers are often in the Coral Ridge parking lot. As the holiday shopping season approaches, Kron advised mall visitors to remember to lock their vehicles and secure their merchandise.

Beathea and Simmons each face charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping, felonies punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Kron said the teen will face the same charges.
