Robbery reported in Iowa City Sunday morning

Police searching for two suspects

IOWA CITY — Iowa City police are looking for information on a robbery alleged to have occurred early Sunday morning.

According to police, two men were walking in the area of Market and Lucas streets around 2:30 a.m. when they were approached by two other men. The two unidentified men assaulted the victims and took their phones, police said.

Police said when the victims attempted to fight back, one of the suspects said he had a gun. The suspects then fled with the men’s phones, police said. The victims told police they do not recall seeing a gun.

The man who reported the crime suffered cuts and abrasions to his face, police said. The other victim did not want to cooperate with police. The suspects were described to be in their 20s. One of the men was 6 feet 2 inches tall, 200 to 220 pounds and was wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt. The other suspect was approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and 190 pounds and was wearing a navy blue long-sleeved shirt.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (319) 358-8477.
