Iowa City police investigating home burglary
Suspect assaulted resident, fled into alley, police said

IOWA CITY — Iowa City police are investigating a burglary and seeking help in locating a suspect.
Officers responded to a home in the 700 block of East Fairchild Street around 10 p.m. Thursday for a report of a burglary in progress. The victim told police a man was in his garage.
Police said when the victim confronted the man, the suspect assaulted him by hitting him over the head with a hard object. The victim suffered minor injuries, police said.
The suspect then fled into a south alley.
Police said the suspect is of average height and build and was wearing dark clothing and a red cap. He possibly had white or cream-colored paint splattered on his clothing.
The incident remains under investigation and citizens in the neighborhood are asked to call police if they see anything out of the ordinary.
