Iowa City Fire Department battles early morning apartment fire

Cause remains under investigation

IOWA CITY — The Iowa City Fire Department responded to an early morning apartment fire on Monday.

Firefighters were called to 1053 Cross Park Avenue at 1:10 a.m. for a report of a fire in the building. Responding crews saw smoke coming from a second floor unit, according to authorities.

Firefighters extinguished the fire while also helping residents out of the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage is estimated at $25,000, authorities said.
