Davenport man arrested after Iowa City chase

IOWA CITY — A Davenport man led Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies in a chase in a stolen car on Sunday.

According to criminal complaints, around 12:09 a.m. Sunday, 36-year-old Bryan L. Hall was spotted in the area of Taft Avenue and the Herbert Hoover Highway driving a vehicle with expired license plates. Authorities said when a deputy attempted to pull Hall over, he fled.

Hall drove in the wrong lane, ignored traffic signals and stop signs and went the wrong way down a one-way street, authorities said. When he was stopped, Hall allegedly told deputies he didn’t stop because he has warrants for his arrest.

Authorities said Hall admitted to using drugs before driving and a drug recognition expert said Hall was under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. Deputies also determined the vehicle was stolen and Hall admitted to finding the vehicle with keys in it and taking it.

Also found in the vehicle were knives with blades of five inches and eight inches.

Hall was arrested and faces charges of second-degree theft, eluding, operating under the influence, two counts of carrying weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail has been set at $15,000 cash or surety, and Scott County has placed a detainer on him, according to jail records.
