Fire caused $30,000 in damages to Iowa City home

IOWA CITY — A fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damages to an Iowa City home Sunday evening.

The Iowa City Fire Department was called to 1104 Highland Ave. around 6:46 p.m. Sunday for a report of a structure fire. While firefighters were en route, they were informed that a passer-by saw smoke coming from the basement window of the home.

Responding crews found a fire in the basement of the home. It was extinguished within 15 minutes of the fire department’s arrival at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
