Woman struck from behind while walking in lane of traffic

A crash just after midnight Thursday killed a pedestrian on Highway 151 near Walford.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded at 12:25 a.m. for a crash between a car and pedestrian just north of the intersection of Highway 151 and Linn-Benton Road.

Authorities say 44-year-old Rochelle Ihandar, of Marinette, Wis., was walking in the center of the southbound lane of the highway when she was hit by an SUV also traveling south.

First responders delcared her dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

An updated release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said the crash was still under investigation, but deputies did not anticipate the driver would face any charges as a result of what happened.
