Convicted burglar wanted for absconding from work release facility in Coralville

Authorities in Johnson County are searching for a man who failed to return to a Coralville work release facility on Monday.

According to a media release from the Iowa Department of Corrections, Curtis Cortez Jones, 40, did not return to the Hope House Residential Facility in Coralville at the prescribed time. After he did not return, authorities placed him on escape status.

Jones is an African American man, 5 foot, 9 inches in height and weighs 241 pounds, according to the release. He is said to have identifiable scars on his left arm, left forearm, left shoulder, right shoulder, right elbow, and lip. He has a piercing in his left ear.

Jones, serving 40 years on a first-degree burglary charge, was transferred to work release on March 28, 2016. His sentence began on June 8, 2005. Information as to Jones’ whereabouts should be reported to the Coralville Police Department or Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
