Cedar Rapids woman killed in Highway 30 accident south of Atkins

Authorities have released the name of the person who was killed last Friday in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 30 and 32nd Avenue south of Atkins in Benton County.

According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Friday, Arlene Erusha, 90, of Cedar Rapids was driving a sports-utility vehicle when she attempted to cross Highway 30 westbound traveling north on 32nd Avenue. Erusha’s vehicle was then struck by a semi-trailer truck being driven westbound by William Butterfield, 69, of Tama. According to the report, the SUV came to a rest in the median while the semi came to a rest in the west bound ditch.

Erusha was killed at the scene of the accident, and was transported by the Benton County Medical Examiner to Mercy in Cedar Rapids, according to the report. Butterfield was transported by Area Ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Both Butterfield and Erusha had been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident according to the report.

According to the report, the accident remains under investigation and the Iowa State Patrol was assisted on scene by Linn County HAZMAT and Fire.
