Cedar Rapids man charged for illegally copying over 2,000 movies, music

A Cedar Rapids man was charged last week in federal court with illegally copying and distributing movies and music worth over $25,000.

Steven Lumont Brown, 44, is charged with one count of copyright infringement. He is accused of reproducing and offering for distribution about 1,510 copies of copyrighted movies and about 492 copies of music recordings between Dec. 18, 2012 and Feb. 28, 2013, according to the criminal information.

The retail value of the materials is over $25,000, according to information.

Brown filed a notice of intent to plead guilty Aug. 18, in U.S. District Court.
